Finally, we are getting our rain here in Portland. I'm actually very happy about that — the winter was quite mild, and last week it was so warm and beautiful it actually started to feel like it was just too darn nice already. I almost thought about actually watering my plants. But then it started raining over the weekend, and all week we will be getting lots of rain here, so I have to say I'm a little relieved. And I like this stormy light. It's like light and dark at the same time. If it was 10 20 degrees warmer it would be glorious.
We are so lucky, because our college friends Pam and Jim and their son Felix arrive this week from Chicago for a visit. I need to finish all of my chores so I can do nothing but hang out with these guys when they get here, so I'm going to sign off the computer for the rest of the week, and wish you all a very joyful holiday! xo

Your photo made me laugh -- I have a pile of shapes cut out of pretty fabrics and the exact same pin holding thing (mine is red) on my kitchen table right now. We're expecting snow and rain showers for the rest of the week here in the sierras.

Me too! I love to see spring, but wasn't quite done with winter. I'm still in 'cozy up' stage and not ready to garden.

Ah, well... the "office" nerds already made the joke... ;) So I'll weight in on the stormy light. It is my favorite kind of light. It's relaxing and the rhythm of the rain is calming. I look forward to summer storms in Chicago. :)

Seems that winter has returned here in the north east of England. But there's the prospect of a weekend of hot cross buns and chocolate eggs to compensate. Happy Easter.

There's nothing better than a spring rain to freshen things up...and to force us back inside to take care of chores! Happy Easter, dear Alicia.

i'm kinda loving the storms. we are seriously short of rainfall which is really hard to imagine. but the winter was very mild and dry (except for that cold snap in december).
give me the chance to stay in bed and read. :)

We are supposed to reach 80 here in IA today....in March! That puts us into tornado season. Yuck. But I'm looking forward to thunderstorms and everything turning green.

I'm pretty sure I know which Pam you're talking about. . . a born-in-Sycamore, Illinois-Pam? I grew up with her. Huh. Small World.

Enjoy! We're looking at three+ days of 70-80 degree weather here in Chicago. In April! Sundress weather!

We're expecting rain in So Cal this evening and tomorrow. But, I'm sure it won't be anything like Portland. Being from the East Coast, I kind of miss rainy days (on occassion/preferably on the weekend). Enjoy those cozy, creative days.

I get nervous when it's sunny too many days in a row. That's my version of seasonal affective disorder. Boy, are we in the right place (Portland, too!).

Agreed! The season has been exactly the same in Seattle and I'm sort of relishing in the fact that it has become dark and stormy out. Doesn't make me feel so bad for wanting to stay inside crafting all day...!

Alicia, I've been following your sewing projects. They're precious. Wondered if you knew about this site:

They have some of the most adorable patterns.
Happy Easter to you, Andy, and Miss Clover Meadow.

I've been a shy and quiet fan (only on the blog, among my friends, I rave about your site all the time!) of your blog for the last two years, and I must say I absolutely love your pictures, writing and Portland life! As a New Yorker, it's all the complete antithesis to the intense hustle and bustle of the city. I became such a fan that I'm heading to Portland for a weekend just to check it out! Do you happen to have any recs for places to visit, food to eat, stores to check out, even a hotel to stay at? Any recs would be very appreciated-- I'm so excited. (I'm, of course, also perusing through your past blog posts)

It is beautiful today on the Oregon coast. With big silvery clouds, wind and lots of light, hail and sprays of rain blowing thru. The weather has been a true variety and never a dull moment this year ! Ah, there's a shaft of brilliant sun just now....gone...
