So, hi! IMB. Though we barely had any yeast and no whole-wheat flour, which I like. I would go to the grocery store except that it is 1) not covered in pillows/duvets/corgis and 2) you cannot smock at the grocery store, so therefore it is unappealing as a destination as far as I'm concerned. That said, I do have oats and honey in the pantry, so if you have a tried-and-true honey-oatmeal bread recipe for a bread-baking-linen-smocking-but-otherwise-useless lump like me, would you be interested in pointing me toward it? I've been really wanting to make some of that for a while, but I'd love a recommendation. Thanks!!!

I am no source for recipes. Fortunately, many of your other readers are. The idea of cherry preserves is making my mouth water, and it is time for lunch..
Am dying to see your smocking endeavors.

Woohoo, a lot of folks responded! I am in the mood for some bread now, teehee!
I just love the pic today! That dish is just gorgeous, well, they both are! I wish that bird would fly to my house!!!

Alicia, you might want to consider the easy recipes available in the "Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day" book/blog - amazing quality bread from a dough that asks very little of you. I, too, am always a bit dubious of the chemistry require to make bread, but now I rarely make "traditional" bread loaves (yeast proofing, rising, punching, etc), since this method is so easy and tasty. Either way, hope you found a great recipe!

I feel your pain - I have trouble dragging myself out to the store sometimes, too. We're supposed to get a snowstorm here in VA this weekend and I am looking forward to being snowed in!!

I've made the Kristin bread for decades. You can tweak it, too, adding herbs, orange zest, nuts, seeds. I got the original recipe from a now-defunct Madison Wi. bakery.

i have always loved the tassajara bread book by edward espe brown, and the oatmeal bread recipe (made with honey) is amazingly delicious. unfortunately there isn't a recipe online, but the book is truly worth owning (and it looks like it was updated recently).
but, omg, i think i also need to try amanda soule's WHO bread. yum!
and p.s. cherry jam is my favorite on home-baked bread, too.

I think few things are (dare I say, sexier?) than a woman making her own bread. What could be more essentially feminine? For how many thousands of years have our foremothers been providing food and comfort for their families in this loving way?

Thanks for this post...I'm getting dizzy with all the recipes being given...we have snow in the forecast tomorrow (about a foot) so I'm thinking some home baked bread might be just the thing...

YMMV means "your mileage may vary" implying that your results may not exactly match mine...

Amish oatmeal bread! My hands down favourite. I usually find it needs a bit more flour when kneading. This is comfort food: http://www.inmamaskitchen.com/RECIPES/RECIPES/Breads/Amish_oatmeal_bread.html

I make Honey Whole Wheat Bread at least twice a week. We use it for sandwiches and toast -- it's soft and light, even though it's got a good bit of wheat in it. Everyone who tastes it asks for the recipe. :) You can see the recipe on my blog here: http://flashbangfibers.blogspot.com/2008/10/honey-whole-wheat-bread.html

Hi Alicia,
I know I'm late here - and hopefully you satisfied your homemade bread cravings days ago - but I figured I would go ahead and tempt you with my Oatmeal Toasting Bread recipe. It's been one of my readers' favorites over the years, and while it's sweetened with brown sugar, you could definitely use honey instead - or simply drizzle some on a slice. Enjoy! :)
