More snow than anyone's seen here in forty years. It just hasn't stopped in days and days and days, and it's snowing now. We pulled the hide-a-bed out in the living room and have been hanging out here since Saturday night. We didn't want to leave the beauty of it all. It's been truly magical.
[Saturday night.]
On Sunday afternoon, we went across the street to our neighbor's house for a holiday party. All of our neighborhood friends were there — everyone came on foot. It was so much fun. No one had been out of the house much in the past week, so we were all just so excited to visit. It was really great. I had so much fun. I wish I had taken a picture of the incredibly huge pile of shoes and boots by the front door. It told the whole story.
[Sunday afternoon.]
During the party it started to snow heavily again. I could see our house from my neighbor's kitchen window, and I could barely make out our Christmas lights. I'd heard at the party that they'd closed down one of the streets nearby and turned it into a sledding hill, so we tried to walk down there in the dark, but I couldn't make it. So we just went home and Andy made a pizza and we ate it while snuggled with Clovie under the duvet (and the quilt, and the ripple blanket, and six pillows) on the hide-a-bed, and stayed there again until early this morning.
[Monday morning.]
There seems to be no end in sight, at least until the end of the week! I feel so bad for everyone who is trying to get somewhere for Christmas — a lot of the highways are closed, the trains aren't running, few people are flying out of or into town (though hundreds of people are stranded at the airport). We might not even make it across town, ourselves. It's just as bad in Seattle, and although our local news is pre-empting most of the usual national coverage, I know we in the Northwest are not alone in being snowed in. They just said that by the end of the day we'll be breaking snowfall records set back in the 1920s and '30s.
I guess my chalet dreams came true, after all!

I am so so jealous... there's such wonderfulness in being cozy while it snows outside.

Oh glorious wonderful snow!!! I wish we had snow. Although, the weather people say we might get a tiny bit on Christmas Day. That would be a first since I was around 4 years old ;)
Oh, I am visualizing all the happy snow soaked shoes piled up at the door ;)
Dreaming of a White Christmas, come true for you!!
I am packing to begin my holiday voyage, and wishing you a warm wonderful holiday Miss Alicia. Your blog is a delightment to read in the morning (or any time of day really)!!
Warmly, Vanessa

It is pretty amazing, isn't it? My favorite things about this much snow are the silence as it muffles all discernible noise and the *fresh*, crisp scent. It makes me feel like a kid again, all the wonder of winter!
(though I have to admit to a bit of cabin fever and excessive cocoa consumption)

Oh, how cozy. We are snowed in here in central NY, too, so our answer is to bake gingerbread, sew and watch Schoolhouse Rock. Enjoy.

My husband and I had a "sleepover" in the livingroom at our place Friday & Saturday night on the air mattress. It felt like a charmed stormy weekend. Even when the plows woke us up in the middle of the night :)

We've got tons of snow here in Victoria, too. I feel like I'm in an enchanted world enclosed by quiet.
Like you, I didn't close the blinds last night - I just wanted to watch the snow fall.
Enjoy! and Merry, merry Christmas!

i am always so happy for those who dont usually get snow when they finally, joyfully do!
we here, in MN, are quite accustomed to the white stuff, and yet i must say, there have been years when we have all worried a bit about 'global warming' and the lack of sky high drifts.
not so this year!
our actual temps hover around -5, the snow keeps falling falling falling,
and the conjuring of childhood skating and sliding and snowballs gives me just the push i need to BUNDLE the wee ones for winter forays of their own!
enjoy! enjoy the snow, the beautiful gleaming, crunching underfoot white stuff.
happy holidays, glorious winter!

I knew you'd be happy about the snow Alicia. So jealous. We're home all week with my girls off from school with nothing pressing other than just wrapping presents and picking up the holiday ham. So wish there was snow. It's bitterly cold (we're in TN), only in the teens, but no snow :(. We finally have sun after two straight weeks of rain and gray days.

I live near Port Townsend, about an hour ferry ride to Seattle and the snow here is insane as well. It's been snowing non-stop for about a week, now. But man, is it pretty outside!! Hope you and yours has a wonderful holiday and new year!

Ohhhh Im so jealous... the weather is really mild here now, one cold spell and that was it. Devon is so close to the coast that it would have to be a miracle for it snow here. I shall look at your pictures and keep dreaming!x

Hi! I found your blog by way of Emily's. I live in Seattle and am loving this snowfall too, even though the news talks about what a pain it all is. I love your cozy spin on it all and your gorgeous pics. xoxo

Hi Alicia! I can't believe it. I got back from Virginia on Friday... with only an hour delay. I feel so lucky. My brother is in Chicago now... trying to get to Portland. He was supposed to be here on Friday, we're hoping for Wednesday. We'll see! It's so nice to see that you're warm and cozy. I'm staying inside in a similar fashion... though I think I might venture to the store (we're out of milk!). Oh boy!
xox,
Linnea
