Clover and Dolly, and the Cavie Creek Scramblers
Did you know that Andy and his sister, Jen, an incredibly talented musician and accomplished violist, have a band called the Cavie Creek Scramblers? No, neither did I! In December, Andy went to Chicago for a few days and, sitting in the waiting room while Jen was at the dentist, he wrote a very cool song about the fair called "County Fair." Jen had just gotten a banjo, so she is playing it here. Andy is singing. I seriously don't know how these guys do it, so I wish I could offer you more information about how one writes a song, and the music, and then records it. But I have no idea. I just walk by occasionally and he hands me some earphones and says, "Wanna hear what me and Jen did?" I know: No big deal, we just, you know, wrote a song. It's flabbergasting, such nonchalance!
On Sunday he set the song to this video of Misses Clover and Dolly, our friends Elizabeth and Stacy's golden retriever puppers who is the exact same age as Clover. I love this, especially when they take turns sitting on each others' heads.
I'll see if I can get Andy to send me the lyrics. They're too good. Oh, and you will get a sneak peak at the present Andy made for Clover in there, too. See if you can tell what it is. :-)
Okay, got the lyrics:
County Fair
Well, there's a little place down south of here
It's not too far and not too near
It's called the fair. The kids'll take their cavies, sheep,
And goats and judge them
By the color of their hair. The mamas and the wives and sisters,
knitting needles, pies, and scissors,
Show off their crafts. The men will meet the grocery
Butchers, sell off all their livestock
Mostly cows and calves (eww).(Refrain:) Let's go to the county fair
Oh, we're almost there.
Sittin' on a folding chair,
Cowboy hat on if you dare.
Even though we're from the city
The locals don't treat us bad.
The cows and horses look so pretty
Even the drive makes me giddy!(We always) say we're gonna sign up
For the 4-H leaders line-up,
But we never do.We'll eat some curly fries, we'll play
Some games, I'll win a prize
Or maybe three or two. That Country/Western singer
On the stage is a dead ringer
For old Bill Monroe.Maybe we'll get up and dance
Depending on the circumstance
If he plays nice and slow.(Refrain)
Tonight we'll hit the round-up,
Bleachers measure from the ground up
Only twenty feet. We're so close to the broncs
It's, frankly, totally redonk.
The view just can't be beat.My favorite part is the penning, cowboys
Mounted, up and running,
Shouting loud and clearAt the cattle with their numbers,
Horses hooves as loud as thunder,
Almost spilled my beer (that's okay).(Refrain)

Haaa! That's great! Is that a little Clover mat he made? Super cute!

Is it that hot pink coiled toy? Looks like a sort of frisbee?
They are so cute! And I love to see how much they grew in 2 months!

Oh man, the song, the puppies; that is so adorable!! I'll show my 7 yo daughter; she and I want a Corgie so badly! And how nice that Clover has a friend to help wear her out...puppies are just inexhaustible, aren't they?
PS. I think Andy made the welcome mat that says Clover!

Oh, this is just too cute. Ok, what did Andy make? I was busy watching puppy feet that I missed a few things. Need to go back and view again.

They remind me of They Might Be Giants. That was the perfect puppy Corgy song. And adorable pups!
I saw you in Country Living today. (You are lovely! It is a testament to your modesty that you aren't constantly blogging about your gorgeous skin.) The March issue was in my therapist's office and I said to my companion "Hey! I know her! I've been reading her blog for the longest time! She's wonderful!" and then I thought other people sitting the psychiatrist's waiting room saw me claiming to know a lady in a magazine and probably thought I was crazy.

Alicia, your blog always makes my day, but today was especially wonderful. I feel a bit like I've been for a visit to your house. Clover and her puppy friend are just too sweet, and your Andy just gets more and more talented!

I love the song, and the video is so great, I'll probably watch it ten times today. I know what you mean, my husband is a songwriter and I'm constantly amazed at his creations. "How did you write that?" i'm always asking him.
and awww, my golden retriever was that size just a year or so ago.

Is that a clover latch hook rug or pillow? I love that as Dolly gets taller and taller, Clover gets longer and longer!
Love the tune.

That was hilarious! Thanks, I needed that today!
Oh, and I think I spied a "Clover" rug. Is that it??

Man, that was so enjoyable! The tune, the puppers, and the homemade burrito I ate while watching the video!

Okay, I had to listen to it again after reading the lyrics just to hear him sing "totally redonk"!!!! Great song Andy, you are a talent undiscovered. More songs! Oh, and those pups aren't bad either.

Dude, you have no idea how very much I needed those laughs today! What a wonderful clip. Bless you and Andy and Clover...and that other dog.
Too,too, much fun!

Way too cool and is there anything the both of you can not do? You guys are great! Very cute video.

Just wonderful! All of it!

That was awesome. Perfect for a rainy morning with a 4-year-old and 2-year-old. They were dancing along with the pups!!

My favorite part is when the golden starts chewing on the little fence around the herb garden. Clover is getting excited that they may break through to the forbidden land! Alas, that didn't last too long....
Thank you for sharing.

The talents of your family consistently amaze me. I watched the video first before reading all of your post, and i loved it! I was going to post and say - "Well, I couldn't quite catch all of the words, but.." - then I read further to find the lyrics - thank you!! Having grown up in 4-H, and entering things in the fair, and with a banjo-loving Grandpa - it just seemed tailored to "fit". Great job, Andy!

What a cute little video! Clover has gotten so big. Very sweet... thank you for sharing!

Thanks for sharing this... It was the only thing today that would get my screaming toddler to calm down. And, although puppies themselves are bliss, Miss Clover and Miss Dolly gave me bliss in the form of a snoring toddler the third time through the video. Thank you!!! :)

That is uber-cool! Lots of neato imagery and a catchy musical arrangement. Puts me in a good mood :)
Clover looks like she's having fun with Dolly! It's good to have a romping-around friend

LOVE those puppers! My Golden has a next door neighbor Westie just the same age, and they have been playing like that for over 2 years. It's hysterical to see the small dogs holding their own just fine, even when the big ones could clobber them! Made my day.

y'all are crazy. we are talking cer-ti-FI-able. but in a good way. thanks for the day brightener!
